Getting to Essaouira

Airport transfers are not included in the program cost. However, I will coordinate ground transfers once flights are confirmed. Where possible, guests arriving around similar times will be connected to share private transport and divide the cost.

Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK)

For most guests, Marrakech is often the more practical airport because it’s closer to Essaouira.

Private transfer to Essaouira

  • 900–1,300 DH (≈ $90–$130) per vehicle, not per person, accommodating up to 3–4 passengers with luggage

  • 2.5–3 hours

Bus to Essaouira

  • Approximately 3 hours travel time

  • 80–140 DH (≈ $8–$14)

  • Departs from the Marrakech bus station, not from the airport

  • Plan for at least 45–60 minutes (or more) between airport arrival and bus departure.

Essaouira–Mogador Airport (ESU)

Direct international flights operate primarily from European cities

  • Approximately 20–25 minutes from the medina

  • Taxi into town: approximately 150–200 DH (≈ $15–$20)

Casablanca International Airport (CMN)

Morocco’s primary long-haul international gateway

Private transfer to Essaouira

  • Approximately 5–6 hours by road

  • 1,800–2,500 DH (≈ $180–$250) per vehicle

Once in Essaouira

Buses arrive a short walk from the gates of the medina (approximately 7–10 minutes on foot). Taxis are readily available for the brief transfer to the gates if preferred.

The medina is car-free. Vehicles drop at designated gates. Guests will be met at the gates and escorted to the riads. A porter will assist with luggage if needed.

Currency

  • Plan to withdraw cash from an ATM on arrival. ATMs are widely available.

  • The Moroccan Dirham (DH) is a closed currency. It’s difficult to get outside of Morocco.

  • Credit cards are accepted at many hotels and larger restaurants; cash is useful in markets and smaller spots.
